Week 6 Day 1 of Treatment

Guess who has a fancy new mouth pump; and no it’s not made out of old fish tank parts! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

Mine is actually version 2.0. I’ve already been through the DVD and it’s charging up as I’m typing this. It looks like you really don’t need much practice with it. The sponge part just hooks into my mouth between my gums and my cheek. They gave me some good default settings to try. – This will be tonight’s experiment.

After treatment this week, everything is just same old, same old. It’s a routine now. I think I’m used to the dry mouth and burning tongue. My throat is still really sore and I’m taking a little more Vicodin throughout my day, but that’s the only real change from last week.

Starting this Thursday, I was told they would give me what they call a boost treatment. This is different from what it sounds like. It will be the same dose, only they will concentrate on the area where the tumor was removed; same dose, smaller area. Basically, the scar where my tumor was removed will take a beating at the skin level. Guess I’ll have to throw some extra cream on that and hope it doesn’t crack.

-Travis

I got to join Travis for his doctor’s appointment today, only I was saddened as Travis came out of treatment telling me he had to break the news to me that the doctor was out sick.-My 2 hour drive, there and back, was still worth seeing Travis and entertaining Marco in the waiting area.

I was shocked when pulling into the parking lot to see how many pink ribbons were on people’s cars. I almost felt like I was missing something. The waiting room has not changed much since the last time I visited. Except that there are new puzzles at the table and there is a creepy pirate women with a large pic in her hand held above her head. I made sure I got my photo with her today. I also managed to snap a photo of the nice coffee area Travis is always telling me about. It kind of reminded me of a staff break room. –I did help myself to some water.

Part of my reasoning for going to Travis’ appointment today was to talk about a doctors note that was once offered to us to get Travis out of a plane ticket to NY; however, the trip still continues to be on his mind as he is trying to convince himself that starving in NY won’t be so bad. I guess we will make a final decision toward the end of this week depending on more side effects and if this machine really helps him sleep.

When Travis and Marco were waiting for me to arrive they went to the little pharmacy they have there in the clinic to order a case of this Boost drink stuff. Of course Travis had me try it when I arrived.-Nasty! I described it like drinking straight from a cows utter (not like I have tried, just the texture was so fatty!) Travis did only lose 0.2lbs since last week. That fatty crud he is drinking must be keeping the pounds on cause he sure does talk like he is starving to death.
