Head and neck cancer patient’s; turns out are a little special…
Patients treated for Head and Neck cancer often end up having aggressive surgery, which results in the loss of teeth and supporting structures. Additionally, treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy also have an impact on the patient’s oral health. Patients with cancers elsewhere in the body do not have the financial burden of paying for any follow up treatment, which may arise as a consequence of their cancer therapy. However, patients who have been treated for Head and Neck cancer usually need extensive dental treatment (and not for cosmetic reasons) as part of long term follow up care to avoid serious health problems, such as Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (dead jaw). There is clearly a financial inequality for patients with Head and Neck cancer to pay for the postoperative and reconstructive phase following their cancer treatment.
I did find some cool gifts though. Apparently head and neck cancer survivors get burgundy and ivory colors. It’s nice that the cancer community lays claim to specific colors, lol.
This is the ribbon.

Now best of all is something Pam found for me!! This is a dry mouth pump. Anyone going through my sort of treatment will know this is the greatest invention on the planet. You could put this sucker in at night and it would keep your mouth moist. That means there is hope to sleep again.
